Flue gas desulphurisation for power plants burning fossil fuels

Flue gas desulphurisation is applied to power stations firing fossil fuels and/or wastes. The gas washer is divided into upper and lower stages with a sump/quencher and a separate absorbent supply tank. Flue gases introduced, flow countercurrent to recirculated scrubbing suspension. The process comprises the separation of entrained halogen-containing droplets from the first stage or circuit, and their return to it. Flue gases, which are reduced in halogen content, are drawn into the second scrubbing stage. Also claimed is the plant for the above process.
