A bath lift (10) mountable to a wall. The lift (10) comprises a motor (34) mounting an upstanding threaded member (38). A sleeve (40) is threadably mounted on the member (38) and a further sleeve (46) locates over the sleeve (40) and is arranged to be non-rotatable relative thereto. A carriage (50) is mounted on the lower end of the further sleeve (46) and seating means (14) can be mounted on the carriage (50) to face in either one of two opposite directions. Rotation of the threaded member (38) causes the sleeve (40) and hence the sleeve (46) to rise or fall thereby allowing a person to be lowered into and subsequently raised from a bath (84).
