The electro magnetically 14 actuated valve 12 is operated by opening and closing a switch 18 that is located between an ac supply 16 and a rectifier circuit 20 . The rectifier is connected to the actuator by a control circuit 30 that provides fast turn off . This is obtained by providing a short circuit dependent upon the switch off induction voltage.
