MAGNETIC POWDER OF IRON OXIDE FAMILY AND MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide magnetic powder of iron oxide family of low resistivity and a magnetic recording medium of low resistivity using the same. SOLUTION: The surface of a magnetic powder of iron oxide family is coated with particulate silicon compounds, where the particulate silicon compounds are fine grains of spherical silica, and the average of grain diameters ranges from 0.01 to 0.02 μm. Also the ratio of silicon atoms to iron atoms (Si/Fe) ranges from 0.5 to 2.0 atm%. The magnetic powder of iron oxide family also is a magnetic needle powder. Moreover a magnetic layer over which the magnetic powders of iron oxide family made in this manner are scattered is formed on a non-magnetic base material to make a magnetic recording medium.
