摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the performance of the angle of visibility of a liquid crystal display device by providing a liquid crystal cell and a compensation layer having structure where its optical axis is inclined and twisted for the purpose of compensation and changing the inclined and twisted structure for the purpose of the compensation in the thickness as the compensation layer. SOLUTION: An LCD 200 is provided with the compensation layer 220 and the LC cell 230. The layer 220 has five layers L1' to L5', the optical axes of the layers L1 ' to L5' imitate the layers L1 to L5 of the LC cell 230. The layer L1' compensates the layer L1. The layers L2' and L3' compensate the layers L2 and L3, respectively, then the layers L4' and L5' compensate similarly. The layer 220 has negative double refraction (ne <no ) and the absolute value of >=n' is equal to the absolute value of &Delta;n. The layer 220 has the negative double refraction and is twisted rightward though the cell 230 is twisted leftward. Therefore, the dependency of the angle of visibility of the characteristic of the LCD is compensated and the angle of visibility is made wider without sacrificing display efficiency.
