PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To select an intended input-output device without mistakes by executing a procedure which shows an icon at an arrangement correspondence position of an input-output device on a layout image that shows the arrangement of the input-output device and a procedure which designates an input-output device corresponding to a selected icon as an input-output destination. SOLUTION: In a personal computer 11 that is connected to a communication medium 1 of a local area network, a CPU 110 executes various programs such as an application program and an input-output device selecting program which are loaded on RAM 112 that operates as main memory and controls various processing and peripheral equipment. Here, the input-output device selecting program carries out a procedure which displays an layout image that shows the arrangement of an input-output device, a procedure which shows an icon showing the input-output device at a position that corresponds to an actual arrangement position of the input-output device on this layout image and a procedure which designates an input-output device that corresponds to an icon selected among icons as in input-output destination.
