PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily input handwritten characters to an electronic information processing equipment without imposing load to the equipment and to simplify interface with the equipment by providing a coordinate input device with a handwritten character recognizing function. SOLUTION: The handwritten character input device 110 constituted of integrally forming the tablet surface of a tablet part 111 and the display surface of a display part 114 is provided with a character recognition part 112, which executes recognition processing based on the coordinate string of a handwritten character inputted from the tablet part 111, acquires the character codes of plural recognized candidates and selects a correct character specified from the recognized candidates by interactiving with the user through the display part 114. Then the selected correct answer is outputted from a character code output part 113 to a handwritten character input device driver 103 in a PC 100.
