PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pressurized water reactor or boiling water reactor capable of collecting solid or liquid fragments or debris generated from the core in accidental meltdown and confining them in reactor containment for long period. SOLUTION: In a pressurized or boiling water reactor, an receiver 30 capable of recovering corium material in the case of accidental meltdown core 20 is directly put in a vessel 18. A cooling space 33 is provided between the receiver 30 and the bottom of the vessel 18. With at least one first water reservoir tank 34, water can fill the vessel 18 by gravity fall in the case of an accident. Then with the second water reservoir tank 40, cooling water fills a vessel well 14. The receiver 30 is traversed by a split vertical tube and a cell type structure member is put in the tube. This provides a reticular structure of obstacles preventing direct contact of water with the plenty of corium material.
