PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent decrease in display quality by placing a spacer material in a area other than a display area by forming an electrode surface and another surface lower than that on a surface of a substrate, dispersing liquid and the spacer material, and moving them by applying an external force. SOLUTION: On a surface of a transparent substrate 1, for example, the electrode 2 having thickness of 200 nm is formed and a step having height of 200 nm is formed between the electrode area and non-electrode area. A liquid layer 3 is formed on the surface of this substrate 10 (A). Next, for example, 5μm diameter true balls of a spacer material 5 are dry-sprayed on the surface of the substrate 10 on which the liquid crystal layer 3 is formed (B). A gas flow 9 is blown off from a nozzle 7 onto the surface of the substrate 10 at a certain angle to move the liquid 3 and the spacer material 5. In the area without the electrode 2, the spacer material 5 is dammed up by the step of the electrode 2 (D). The gas 3 is evaporated by the gas blowing while moving, and the spacer material 5b is also moved, although they are partially blown off, spacer material 5a dammed up at the step remains there.
