OPTICAL MATERIAL MADE OF SYNTHETIC RESIN, OPTICAL FILTER, AND DEVICE, SPECTACLE LENS, HEAT RAY ABSORPTION FILTER, AND OPTICAL FIBER EACH PROVIDED WITH THE FILTER

An optical material which is made of a synthetic resin and which has the ability to efficiently absorb near infrared rays and, even when used for long in a high-temperature high-humidity atmosphere, can be inhibited from suffering blushing or a decrease in transmittance in part of the visible light region; an optical filter made of this optical material; and a device, spectacle lens, heat ray absorption filter, and optical fiber each provided with the optical filter. The optical synthetic-resin material is characterized by comprising a polymer and phosphate groups, copper ions, and rare earth metal ions incorporated therein. Preferably, the phosphate groups have been chemically bonded to the molecular structure of the polymer. The polymer is preferably a copolymer obtained by copolymerizing a monomer containing a phosphate group and represented by the following general formula (1): PO(OH)nR3-n with a monomer copolymerizable therewith, wherein R represents a polymerizable functional group represented by the general formula (2): CH2=CXCOO(CpH2pO)m-, wherein X represents hydrogen or methyl; p is an integer of 2 to 6; and m is an integer of 0 to 5; and n is 1 or 2.
