PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a magnetooptical recording and reproducing system capable of simplifying the processing of a regenerative signal and hardly being affected by noise at the time of signal transformation by irradiating a recording medium having recorded information with laser light, emitting an electron from the recording medium irradiated with the laser light and detecting the emitted electron. SOLUTION: The laser light is converged by an objective lens 5 onto the recording medium 1, where electrons 3 are emitted due to concentration of its energy. A detector 6 is arranged above the recording medium 1 for the purpose of detecting emissionates from the upper surface of the recording medium 1 out of the emitted electrons 3. Another detector 6 is arranged in order to detect emissionates from the lower surface of the recording medium 1. Assuming that reproduction is performed in the air, the position of the detector 6 is desirable to be adjacent to a read part of the recording medium 1 by <=10μm. In addition, by impressing +10 mV to +50 mV upon the detector 6 as against the recording medium 1, detecting efficiency can be enhanced concerning noise in the regenerative signal and size of the regenerative signal.
