PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the occurrence of a non-linear effect, and to effectively transmit light of high in energy density by providing an optical fiber with such characteristics in a specific wavelength range as substantial single mode transmission, a specific wavelength dispersion, a negative value of a dispersion slope, a specific bending loss, and a specific effective core cross-sectional area. SOLUTION: This dispersion-compensated optical fiber transmits light substantially in a single mode in a 1.55 μm wavelength range, and has a chromatic dispersion of -100 ps/nm/km, having a negative value of the dispersion slope, a bending loss of 1.0 db/m or less, and an effective core cross-sectional area of 20-50 μm<2> . Further, it is desirable to design this dispersion-compensated optical fiber so that its absolute value of the wavelength dispersion becomes 0.5 ps/nm or less in the wavelength range of 1.55 μm obtained at the time of combining a dispersion-compensated optical fiber with a single mode optical fiber which has almost zero wavelength dispersion in 1.3 μm wavelength range to be compensated with this dispersion-compensated optical fiber. |
