PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable inspection for the selection of products that is so far impossible by an image processing and a diagnosis method by perspective in a product inspection instrument. SOLUTION: A product to be inspected is struck by a struck sound generator 1 to generate a struck sound and the struck sound is detected by a sound detection means 2. The struck sound is analyzed by a detected sound analysis means 3 and patterned by a detected sound pattern generation means 6. A pattern collation means 6 collates the pattern with a reference pattern previously registered in a reference pattern registration means 5 and a product allocation means 7 allocates products according to the results of collation. This enables the selection of containers as products the same in shape and size depending on the material of the containers. This also allows application to check the amount of filled matters in the container as product that can not be directly seen and to check to see if a ceramic matter is cracked.
