<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a higher recording density than that of the existing coding method by allowing a 17-bit code word sequence to have consecutive zeros of a 1st prescribed number at a maximum run length and configuring the 17-bit code word sequence with two subsequences each having consecutive zeros of a 2nd prescribed number at a maximum run length. SOLUTION: Input data are coded through an RLL 16/17 (0.5/5) coder 30, recorded in a storage device through a pre-coder 40 and an equalizer 50 and processed by an equalizer 60 that facilitates signal detection. Then an even number bit sub-sequence and an odd number bit subsequence are reproduced by ML detectors 70, 72 and an RLL 16/17 (0.5/5) decoder 80 corresponding to the RLL 16/17 (0.5/5) coder 30. In the system configured as above, data are transmitted at a higher rate than that of a full reply signal with a given band width and surely detected by the Viterbi detectors 70, 72 with a simple structure.</p> |
