摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the performance of an element and to minimize the waveguide loss of optical waveguides for guiding a light signal by including these waveguides and an upper clad layer existing in the upper part of the optical waveguides and a lower clad. SOLUTION: A linear polymer and a nonlinear polymer both constitute waveguides cores 140, 150. An electrode 130 is formed in the part where a nonlinear effect arises and a nonlinear core region 150 is formed with the nonlinear polymer in the part. A linear core region 140 which is low in light progression loss and consists of the linear polymer is formed in the part where the need for the nonlinear effect is eliminated by the voltage and electric field applied directly on the electrode 130 within the optically active element. The light signal inputted from the one end first passes the linear core region, 140. The characteristics of the light are changed by the voltage and electric field applied directly on the electrode 130 while the light signal is passed through the nonlinear core region 150 consisting of the nonlinear polymer of the part where the electrode 130 exists. The light signal is outputted again through the linear core region 140 consisting of the linear polymer.</p>
