<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain recording/reproduction of high density data by using a coding method including a step that maps a binary data symbol with a code word selected from a state transition limit step and a zero run length limit step to modulate and code binary input data into a 9-bit code word suitable for a channel characteristic of a storage device. SOLUTION: User data are coded by a compression section 1 and an error correction coding section 2, and then coded by a modulation coding section 3 so as to be suitable for a channel characteristic of a storage device, modulated data are given to a signal generator 4, from which a signal is generated and compensated in advance by a write equalizer 5 and recorded in a channel head/ disk. The recorded signal is processed at a read equalizer 6 so as to be easily reproduced and detected, and a detector 7 detects a signal so that an error probability is minimized. The signal detected by the detector 7 is decoded into the original user data through a modulation decoding section 8, an error correction decoding section 9 and an expansion section 10.</p> |
