PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to efficiently illuminate a keyboard section in a state suitable for playing and to neatly arrange an illumination device with good appearance without making the device conspicuous by mounting the device at the rear surface of a fallboard and illuminating the keyboard section with prescribed brightness when the fallboard is held closed. SOLUTION: The illumination device 1 is provided with corner part on the front side of the fall board 2 of the keyboard musical instrument G. Three sockets 3 are mounted at its rear surface in the state of lining up in one row in a lateral direction. Three pieces of bar-shaped fluorescent lamps 4 are respectively mounted at these sockets 3. Electric power is supplied from the respective sockets 3 to the respective fluorescent lamps 4. The sockets 3 and the fluorescent lamps 4 are mounted at the rear surface of the fallboard 2 in such positional relations as to avoid the interference with the upper surface of the keyboard. The efficient illumination of the keyboard section 7 from a nearer place is made possible by opening the fallboard 2 and lighting the fluorescent lamps 4. At this time, the keyboard section 7 is illuminated with the brightness suitable for playing by the fluorescent lamps 4.
