PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To flexibly deal with various actually photographed images and also to generate a beautiful illustration image by compositing a graphic obtained by smoothing a multi-level image with a graphic prepared based on the feature value of an outline nearby area of the obtained graphic. SOLUTION: A human face image, i.e., an input color image is fetched via an image input means 1. A noise elimination means 4 eliminates the noises from a binary image outputted from an image binarization means 2, and an outline peripheral area to be formed at the place near the outline of a hair area of the face image is smoothed to obtain a new image. In regard to the color image outputted from the means 1, the feature value of the periphery (outline nearby area) of the image outputted from the means 4 is extracted by a peripheral feature value extraction means 5 and outputted. Based on the peripheral feature value, a parts image storage means 6 selects a parts image. An image composition means 8 composits the parts image to the binary image that is free from the noises and outputs a composite image. |
