摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain bright display luminance without increasing power consumption in a light source in a liquid crystal display device provided with a backlight optical system. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device provided with at least a liquid crystal display element 1 and a backlight structure body 2 set upon a back surface of a liquid crystal display panel and radiating surface light is provided with a directional convergent plate 6 that the backlight structure body 2 collimates emission light of a linear light source, a polarization separator 8 separation transmitting a (p) wave from the light containing the (p) wave and an (s) wave from the linear light source 4, a 1/4 wavelength plate 11 converting an (s) wave component reflected by the polarization separator 8 to a (p) wave component and a downward prism plate 9 angular changing the (p) wave transmitting the polarization separator through and emitting at a deep emission angle in the normal direction of a display surface without an energy loss.
