SEALED BATTERY SEPARATOR AND ITS MANUFACTURE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator closely fittable to a clad type electrode with high holding property of electrolyte and satisfactory permeability of generated gas by providing a hole for inserting an electrode in the inner part of an electrolyte holding body. SOLUTION: The electrolyte holding body 1 of this separator is porous to catch and hold an electrolyte in its void. This holding body 1 is an integrated matter, and has a hole 2 for inserting an electrode. This hole 2 has a form according to a clad type electrode. Since the separator is preliminarily molded according to the form of the clad type electrode, it is never locally deformed by the contact with the electrode. Namely, the internal void of the separator is never narrowed by the contact with the electrode. This separator is thus never deteriorated in holding property of electrode nor in the permeability of generated gas, and the internal pressure of the battery can be suppressed low.
