PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain good images excellent in repeatability of mesh images and less occurrence of image noise with regard to a developing device making development by leading a developer from a developer carrying body opposing an image carrier through required space to the developing position opposing the image carrier. SOLUTION: This developing device performs development by leading a developer 12 to a developing area opposing an image carrier 1 with the developer 12 retained on the surface of a developer carrier 11 opposing the image carrier 1 through required space and impressing alternate voltage on the developer carrier 11. In this case, a peak value Vpp of the alternate voltage impressed on the developer carrier 11 and the space D between the conductive base body 11c of the developer carrier 11 and the image carrier 1 opposing each other satisfy the relation of 3 kv/mm>=Vpp/D>=8 kV/mm by using the developer carrier 11 provided with a high resistance layer 11d of a layer thickness of 30 μm to 150 μm on the surface of the conductive substrate 11c. |
