Hazardous material disposal, especially chemical munition disposal

A process for disposal of hazardous materials, especially chemical munitions which can be fitted with a fuse, involves providing a highly exothermic combustion charge on the hazardous material container, on the munition body or in place of the munition fuse before introduction into a closed combustion or pyrolysis chamber. Preferably, the combustion charge generates a temperature sufficient to cause melt-through or burn-through of the container, the munition or the inner casing of the munition and contains thermite or napalm.
