The separator (4) has a spiral tract (17) through which air from the crankcase breather passes from a tangential inlet (5) to an axial outlet (6) to the induction air cleaner, and a second axial outlet (7) which returns the separated oil to the crankcase. The separator is connected through a restrictor orifice to the output side of the supercharger, so that at high engine loads, pressurised air (15) is fed into the separator inlet pipe. This mixes with and increases the velocity of, the breather air, and improves the separation of entrained oil from the air stream.
