The transfer method involves using a suction wedge (18) which swivels between the edge of a stack of sheets of paper or similar and a light-permeable holder plate (6) exposed to suction air. The upper side of the stack and the underside (7) of the holder plate facing the stack's upper side both face the suction wedge. The suction wedge, which has suction holes spaced apart from the wedge's peak, is adjustable at variable slopes in relation to the stack's upper surface.
