976,198. Liquefied gas storage vessels. GAZ DE FRANCE. Sept. 25, 1961 [Feb. 1, 1961], No. 34326/61. Heading F4P. The insulation of double-walled tanks comprises a mixture of lumps 4, 6 of elastically compressible solid insulating material e.g. expanded polystyrene, cork or balsa wood blocks, or mineral wool, with pulverulent insulating material 7 which may be pneumatically injected between the lumps before, and if desired after, filling of the tank with liquefied gas. In a modification a grid of e.g. wire netting, of smaller mesh than the solid insulating material, is disposed inside the double wall one fourth of the way in from the outer wall and the space between the grid and the outer wall is filled only with pulverulent insulating material. When small lumps of insulating material are used, they may also be deposited in the insulation space between the walls by pneumatic injection. The tank wall may be reinforced by a few hoops or frames. |
