A copy - milling machine comprises a table 16 for carrying the work 18 and a pattern 20 and movable in three coordinate directions, a tool head 34 adjustable angularly about a horizontal axis and carrying on one face thereof, parallel to the axis, means for holding a roughing tool 42 associated with a first tracer 44, and on another face parallel to the axis an attachment 62 for manual finishing, the attachment comprising a tool 64 and a second tracer 66, the arrangement being such that either the roughing tool or the manual finishing attachment can be tilted into working position. The frame has two columns 10, 12 joined by the tool-head 34. The column 12 is formed with guideways 36 aligned with guideways 38 on the tool head 34 to permit a spindle head 40 to be laterally adjusted off the guideways 38, which can then receive a drilling, grinding or slotting attachment, the tracer 44 being swung to the rear. The tracer 44 is mounted on a pivoted arm 46 which is adjustable horizontally on guideways 48 on the column 10, the spacing between the tracer and its tool 42 being maintained constant by a rod 50. The roughing tool 42 is rotated by a motor 52 through a clutch 54 and a gear-box 56. The spindle for the tool 42 is adjustable vertically by a wheel 58. The head 34 is locked in position by a lever 60. When the tool head has been adjusted clockwise in Fig. 3 to the position of Fig. 6, by means of a hand wheel 92 and worm gearing, the finishing tool 64 is operative. The tool and its tracer 66 are carried on a beam 62 horizontally movable on a carrier 68 mounted on parallelogram links 70 attached to a vertically-adjustable slide 72. The tool is controlled by a rod 74 attached to the beam 62 via a pantograph 76-82. The tool 64 is rotated by the motor 52 through the clutch 54 and belt gearing in covers 86, 88. The whole finishing mechanism is counter-balanced by means controlled by a hand wheel 90. |
