The rotary piston engine (1) has a stator wall (2) enclosing a rotor (3). The stator wall has a position able liner (11) engaged by the contact lugs (9) of the rotor which engage on its inner face. The inner chamber (12) of the liner defines a curved movement path (10) concentric to the rotor axis and in a plane orthogonal to the rotational axis of the rotor. The adjuster can be formed as a ring which is closed in the peripheral direction. The outer periphery of the adjustment ring can have external teeth for engagement by a drive ratchet (14).
