The valve has a housing (2) with fuel chamber (4) and valve spring chamber (7), connected to it via a membrane (6) and atmospherically charged via a housing aperture (6). The aperture has an associated automatic closure device (8). This prevents fuel flowing from the fuel chamber to the valve spring chamber from leaking into the environment. The closure device has a guide chamber (9) upstream of the housing aperture, and atmospherically connected to the valve spring chamber. The guide chamber contains a moveable plug (10) of a material, which swells up when subjected to fuel. The material is acrylonitrile-butadiene-elastomer (NBR), or ethylene- propylene-diene-elastomer (EPDM).
