Addressing apparatus for network units in e.g. motor vehicle radio system

The apparatus addresses network components which are connected via a controller area network (CAN) bus (15). The components may be used for a motor vehicle radio system that has a number of distributed loudspeakers (31-34) each of which has an identical amplifier (21-24). The data bus has CAN high, CAN low lines and power lines. Each amplifier has a coded plug connection (VR,HR,VL,HL) onto the bus. Output from the radio (10) is fed to the loudspeakers using offset addresses transmitted over the bus.
