The invention relates to a moulded, activated metallic fixed-bed catalyst having a pore volume of 0.05-1 ml/g and an outer, activated shell consisting of a sintered, small-particle catalyst alloy as well as optional catalyst promoters. The catalyst alloy has metallurgical phase domains resulting from the production of the alloy. The phase with the greatest volume has a specific interfacial density of more than 0.5 .mu.m-1.
