The device has a number of spatially distributed infrared radiation heads whose radiation directions are aligned by a missile warning system. The heads are distributed around the vehicle so that the mean distance between two heads is essentially equal to the minimum separation of two engines. Each wing carries at least one infrared radiation head, whose minimum distance from the fuselage is essentially equal to the distance between the fuselage and the engine. The wavelength of the emitted infrared radiation can lie between 3.5 and 4.7 micrometres.
