Loading device for material testing and fault detection

The device applies loading, which may be tension, pressure, bending or torsion, to the surface of a component. The modulus and direction of the loading are dynamically and statically adjustable, and the loading is transferred to the component through areas joined by hot melt adhesive, wax, magnets, fasteners or vacuum. Forces and moments can be applied in any desired direction. Faults, component structures and material structures can be made visible or can be detected from the inhomogeneities they produce compared to the intrinsic deformation or the corresponding deformation gradient, using a measuring method such as shearography (ESPSI).
