The counterbalance force generator has a force sensor (9) with an output connected to an electronic unit, which controls an actuator in a lever-arm manipulator. The operating force of an operator (8) is measured by the force sensor, and the measurement signal is continuously fed to a converter (11) integrated in the electronic unit. The output signal from the converter is converted via a PI controller (12) into a control signal form the actuator. The measurement signal fed to the converter is converted, based on a response curve, into the output signal. The manipulator has a gear for moving a load, with a cable winch or linear positioning device.
