<p>A chuck (10) for use with a manual or powered driver having a rotatable drive shaft is provided. A generally cylindrical body member (16) has a nose section (20) and a tail section (22). A plurality of jaws (18) are disposed within the body (16) longitudinally with respect to a nose section axial bore (24). A self-contained anti-friction bearing assembly (42) is in communication with the body (16). The bearing assembly (42) has an inner race (56), an outer race (60), and bearing elements (68) cooperating together. A nut (44) is integrally attached to the bearing asssembly (42) and in operative communication with the jaws (18). A generally cylindrical front sleeve member (12) is in driving engagement with the nut (44) and overlies the nose section (20) of the body member (16) whereby when the front sleeve member (12) is rotated with respect to the body member (16), the jaws (18) will be moved radially with respect to the axial bore (24) of the nose section (20).</p> |
