<p>An apparatus for providing breathable gas from a reserve gas source for underwater breathing to be used in combination with a main air tank (100) and a pressure regulator (120) connected to the main air tank. The improvement comprises combining an auxiliary air tank (200) having a manifold (205) and pressure regulator (220), where the manifold is in fluid communication with the main air tank and is provided with a check valve (210) therein for precluding air flow from the manifold to the main air tank. Thus when the main air tank is filled with pressurized air, the auxiliary air tank is also filled with pressurized air, but should the main air tank become depressured, the check valve prevents air flow from the auxiliary air tank to the main tank. The auxiliary air tank is also capable of providing breathable air while also filling a buoyancy control device. The auxiliary air tank is mounted to the main tank by a 'W'-shaped bracket (152) forming legs (160) and a cradle (166) for engaging the main and auxiliary tanks, respectively, to securely mount the auxiliary tank to the main tank with the longitudinal axes of the tanks substantially parallel to each other.</p> |
