Computer controlled communications system

The communication system includes a communications arrangement (1) for transferring data between the subscriber terminals, and at least one computer (3a - 3c) connected to the communication arrangement. This comprises several control devices (7a - 7c) for performing certain tasks for the control of the communication arrangement. A computer-specific deactivation time period is associated with the computer, which defines the period of time between a last action of the computer and an intended automatic deactivation of the computer. Supervision devices (4, 4a - 4c) are provided, which supervise the count of the deactivation time period after an action of the computer, and which cause the deactivation of the computer, if no further action of the computer has been executed within this period.
