The analogue-to-digital converter includes a first data register (4) for storing an m-bit A-D conversion result. A second data register (5) stores an n-bit A-D conversion result, where n is smaller than m. A control device (3) transfers the n most significant or least significant bits of the m-bit A-D conversion results stored in the first data register to the second data register as an n-bit A-D conversion result. The n-bit A-D conversion result is arranged in the second data register, such that is stored in half-word units, or byte units.
