The device is provided with a data detection and a data processing unit (6). The air temperature signals transmitted to the unit are measured using a dry and a non-force cooled wet thermometer, under free convection. The dry thermometer (5) directly contacts the surrounding air, and the wet thermometer (1) is continuously supplied with water across a wick (2). The temperature reduction of the surrounding air due to the vaporisation cooling can be determined, and from the two temperatures and a unit constant to be determined in a pretrial in the data detection and data evaluation unit. The water content of the air and the water vapour partial pressure are computed according to known thermodynamic equations.
