Magnetic resonance spectrometer

The spectrometer consists of a beam source (8), an absorption cell (5) for the species to be investigated and a variable homogeneous magnetic field. The magnetic field is provided by at least one permanent magnet (12), the flux density of which can be varied. The magnet pole spacings can be altered or a variable magnetic shunt can be provided. Several permanent magnets may be arranged in rings to form a magnetic sphere. The pole pitches may be varied by electric motors or by a piezoelectric adjustment system. The magnets may be based on neodymium-iron-boron or cobalt-samarium or aluminium-nickel-cobalt combinations.
