An apparatus for treating the atmosphere contained in enclosed spaces, characterized in that it absorbs oxygen and carbon dioxide and includes a reservoir (3) which contains molecular sieves (5) and has an inlet (7), an outlet (9), and a vacuum pump (21), for creating a vacuum in the reservoir, and connected to the inlet; the inlet is connected to an enclosed space, from which the oxygen or carbon dioxide must be removed, through a ventilator (17); the ventilator is connected to the enclosed space through an inlet valve (13); the inlet is connected to the outside atmosphere through a valve (19) for external connection; the outlet is connected to the enclosed space through an outlet valve (11).
