Neuropeptide-based composition selected from the group consisting of vasoactive intestinal peptide and peptide N-terminal histidine C- terminal methionineamide and an alpha-adrenergic blocker and pharmaceutically acceptable diluent for inducing erection in a human male suffering from impotence caused by severe atherosclerosis. Tissue damages are avoided compared to a use of a penis implant, which has been the only mean known for treating impotence so far.
