PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for purifying a substantially anhydrous organic liquid in order to reduce the contents of alkali metal and alkaline earth metal cations. SOLUTION: In order to purify a substantially anhydrous organic liquid, the liquid is brought into contact with one kind or several kinds of cationic ion-exchange resin. The resin or at least one kind of the resins is a -SO3 H or -SO3 NH4 type sulfonic acid type resin based on a poly(styrene-divinylbenzene) copolymer with a divinyl benzene content of 50-60 wt.%.
