PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a tin oxide having an excellent electric charging and discharging cycle by preparing a precursor solution containing both an organic solvent-soluble tin compound and/or metallic tin and one or more kinds of compounds of an alkaline earth metal, a rear earth element, a transition element, an element belonging to 13th, 14th and 15th group of the Periodic Table and a chalcogen element, hydrolyzing the solution at a specific pH for forming a gel and then burning the gel. SOLUTION: This method for producing the composite tin oxide powder is to prepare a precursor solution by adding and dissolving a tin compound such as SnCl2 and metallic tin in an amount of attaining 0.60-1.80 atomic ratio of a halogen/tin, a compound of an element of 15th group of the Periodic Table such as SbCl3 as a second component elemental compound and a high boiling compound such as a polyethylene glycol having 100-100000 weight averaged molecular weight, etc., in an organic solvent such as methanol, performing a polycondensation reaction by adding an aqueous alkaline solution such as an aqueous ammonia, etc., to make pH 3-9 for forming a sol, removing ammonia by heating to form a gel, burning the crushed gel in an oxidative gas atmosphere within the temp. range of 250-1200 deg.C to obtain composite tin oxide particles having 0.01-100 μm mean particle diameter. |
