PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a shock-absorbing material which hardly pollutes the environment because of its decomposability in nature and hardly damages or harms packed goods by preparing the material from a foamed biodegradable plastic. SOLUTION: A biodegradable plastic mainly comprising a mixture of 1-70 wt.% polycaprolactone and 99-30 wt.% aliph. polyester produced by polycondensation is foamed to give an open-celled foam having a foaming ratio of 10-60, which is formed into a shock-absorbing material for packing. The figure shows a fruits packing material 1, an example of the application of this material. Since the sizes of cavities 2 contg. fruits and the distances between the cavities are suitably determined according to the kinds of fruits and the material is a foamed plastic having a thickness L of 1-4 mm, the impact during transport, etc., is absorbed and fruits are not damaged. Prepd. from an open- celled foam, the material 1 allows vegetable hormones (e.g. ethylene) volatilizing from fruits to pass through it, preventing fruits from becoming overripe in commercial distribution.
|
