PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a uniform and dense oxide fiber having no void affecting an electrooptical characteristics, and further to provide a metal oxide fiber produced by the method. SOLUTION: This method for producing a metal oxide fiber comprise a first step for obtaining a gel fiber from a sol obtained by concentrating a solution comprising a metal compound, water and a solvent to the state having spinnability, a second step for degrading and removing an organic component in the gel fiber obtained in the first step, and a third step for solidifying the gel fiber obtained by the second step. Further, the second step and/or the third step are carried out while heating in a steam atmosphere. The metal oxide fiber is produced by the method. |
