PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing 1,2,4-butanetriol having a high optical purity by an economically excellent and simple means. SOLUTION: This method for producing 1,2,4-butanetriol is to find out a microorganism having a capacity of increasing the existing ratio of (S)-1,2,4- butanetriol or (R)-1,2,4-butanetriol in a reaction medium by acting on a mixture of enantiomers of 1,2,4-butanetriol, and to produce economically and simply the high optical purity 1,2,4-butanetrol by utilizing such microorganism. |
