The cardiac stimulator, defibrillator or cardioverter is an active implantable type. The stimulator includes detectors for detecting spontaneous electrical activity events in a cardiac cavity. A stimulator stimulates the cardiac cavity. The stimulator is controlled as a function of the current escapement interval such that, at each cardiac cycle, a stimulation is applied to the cavity if no spontaneous event is detected at the end of a time period corresponding to the flow of the escapement interval from the last spontaneous event or the last stimulation applied to the cavity. The number of successive stimulated events are counted. A device discriminates between the extrasystolic origin or not of the spontaneous events detected in the cavity. Each escapement interlace is modifiable at each cardiac cycle, either to reduce from a first programmed value of the current escapement interval after detection of a spontaneous event whose origin is non extrasystolic or to increase from a second programmed value the current escapement interval after deliverance of a pre-determined number of successive stimulations.
