The method involves transmitting a signal from a source over several connection lines or over radio communication through spatially separate antennas (A1, A2, ...) to several receivers (R1, R2, ...). The signal is transmitted from the receivers to a central arrangement (Z) which selects the signal with the best quality, and switches it to an operator. A quality index is formed in the receivers, which is transmitted along with the corresponding signal to the central arrangement, whereupon the central arrangement selects and switches the signal with the highest quality index. A signal strength, a voice signal strength, a noise level, and thereby a signal-to-noise ratio are preferably determined in the receivers, and are used as the quality index of the corresponding signal.
