The inside of a hole that has been drilled into the wood is illuminated by a light source (7) and light received by a light-sensitive CCD component (15) is converted into electric signals, which are received by an electronic processor (17) in the device base unit (1). The light source and light-sensitive component are mounted on a tubular probe (3) which is inserted into the hole. The probe contains a lens (13) which directs light against part of the hole surface, and also contains an optical conductor (11) which receives the reflected light and directs it to the CCD component. A support (5) movably attached to the probe is fixed into position during measurements. A movement detection sensor (29) records how far the probe has been inserted into the hole relative to the fixed support. The electronic processor is connected to the sensor and converts the electric signals into a digital image of the illuminated hole surface. |
