On the basis of a vessel (tank) 1, similar to that of any conventional blast furnace, with heat-insulated walls, with an upper charging aperture 4 and a lower tap hole 5 for the discharge of the pig iron, the furnace of the invention incorporates a wide and predominant intermediate sector of its vessel 1 occupied by a mass of rounded edges 6 of volcanic granite, at the same time as, on its wall, specifically in this sector occupied by the rounded edges 6, there is a plurality of burners 11, preferably for fuel-oil, which heat said rounded edges to the melting point of the iron ore 9, which is deposited on the rounded edges with the collaboration of a charging bell component 10 coupled to the narrow mouth 4 of the vessel, thereby achieving a continuous smelting process, in the absence of the conventional coking coal, which produces only scant sediment in the lower chamber 7 of the vessel, it being possible for said sediment to be removed without interrupting the process via a side exit or opening 12. <IMAGE>
